The Real Doctor in the Rearview

I had a new patient years ago who spent the first 15 minutes of her consult spitting out diagnosis after diagnosis and bragging about all the different doctors she'd been to.

I just kept quiet and listened…

When she was done I responded, 

You rattled off all the doctors you've been to.  The neurologist the gastroenterologist, the orthopedic and the cardiologist, but you failed to mentioned the one that can actually help you… 

The one you see in the mirror every day.

She got it.
